PORTFOLIO: Todd Kelly

Like Julian Kreimer, Todd Kelly embraces both representation and abstraction in his painting practice. At Asya Geisberg Gallery (today is the last day), Kelly captures the zeal of a beginning painting student who is just learning all the impressive things that paint can do—but with considerably more skill and energetic curiosity.  “It is a mind game; I want to find a connection, I want there to be magic, I want it so desperately and then it begins to actually happen,” Kelly says. “I am forced to question whether I am chancing upon a great new truth or forcing it into being.
