Contributed by Karlyn Benson / Late summer is arguably the best time in the Hudson Valley, with mild temperatures, sunny skies, flowers blooming everywhere, and loads of fresh produce at local markets. There is a similar sense of abundance in the galleries. Openings on September 5 include Escape Hatch: Felix Beaudry, Samantha Bittman, Chris Edwards at Roundabouts Now; Dirty Joke at Utopia, Amy Jacobs at Headstone; Jim Denney and Dennis Gordon at Time and Space Limited; knee deep in this body of water at The Re Institute; Brett De Palma, RM Fischer, and Judy Glantzman at CAS; Joseph Fucigna and group show Material Culture at G-Town Arts, and Ted Dixon at WAAM. September 5 is also the last chance to visit Mother-in-Law’s outdoor sculpture exhibition. The Wassaic Project’s summer show Because, now is the time of monsters, ends on September 13 with a closing reception from 2-5 pm. On September 12, Donna Moylan opens at Philip Douglas Fine Art and on September 19, LABspace presents Susan Carr: Sick of the devil. Also on September 19, Judy Pfaff and Michael David open at Private Public Gallery, Iain Machell opens at the Jane Street Art Center, and Ascension Symptoms with Caroline Larson, Chris Watts, Monica Lorraine Bernal, Ryoko Fujuwara, and Sage Tucker-Ketcham opens at Elijah Wheat Showroom.
