DEADLINE to send a letter of interest for a 2026 residency is October 30, 2025. / Over the years, intimate, artist-run residency programs have helped move artists’ work forward in unexpected ways. In 2015, grateful for the residency experiences she had at Peter Dudek’s Bascom Lodge, Austin Thomas’s Pocket Utopia, Helen Chellin’s Red Cinder Creativity Center, and Simon Draper’s Habitat for Artists, Two Coats publisher Sharon Butler introduced an artist residency at Two Coats of Paints’ HQ in Brooklyn. The residency program’s goal was simply to provide a short-term space where artists based outside the NYC area could hang their work and have studio visits with curators, other artists, collectors, and gallerists.

To learn more about a 2026 residency, please send an email to STAFF@twocoatsofpaint.com (with RESIDENCY in the subject line) outlining your interest in a Two Coats of Paint Residency. Tell us where you are living and when you would like to take up residence in 2026. Please include links to your website and socials.

The studio is located in Long Island City, Queens, a quick subway ride from Grand Central Station and the Museum of Modern Art. Other artists’ studios, MoMA PS 1, and the Noguchi Museum are all in our neighborhood, and the space is a short walk to the 7, F, M, N, R, W, E subway lines at Queensboro Plaza, Queensbridge, and Queens Plaza.

Two Coats of Paint is across the East River from Manhattan, a 10 minute trip by subway.

Although we charge a fee for the residency, it s generally covered by your academic institution as a Faculty Development expense. This is work space only — residents must find their own living accommodations.
