Hudson Valley Selected Gallery Guide: September, 2022

Carrie Haddad Gallery: Robert Goldstrom, Summer Afternoon, Provincetown Bay (Planters), 2022, oil on canvas, 60 x 60 inches

Contributed by Sharon Butler / In September, as people head back to the city for the beginning of the art season, the Hudson Valley region quiets down somewhat, but many of the galleries will still be open for business. On Sunday, September 18th, I’ll be back in Hillsdale, NY (located east of Hudson, north of Millerton, west of Great Barrington), for the closing party for “Guided by voices,” the kinetic abstraction show at LABspace that includes work by me, Yura Adams, Lucy Mink, and Adrian Meraz. Please save the date to stop by from 1-5 and say hello. Or, I guess I should say, goodbye. I also want to give a shout out to KK Kozik’s Icehouse Project Space, just over the NY border in Sharon, CT, where installation wizard Lisa Hoke has taken over the former icehouse. It opens on September 24. In Kinderhook, don’t miss “My flaws are my pets,” Reginald Madison’s work from the past few decades at SEPTEMBER. Madison works on a range of found surfaces — paper, canvas, panel, and even on his old paintings.

If you have a show that you would like to be considered for inclusion to the next guide, please send a note to upstateartguide.twocoatsofpaint@gmail.com. As always, huge thanks to Sophy Johnston for compiling the guide, which is loosely organized by neighborhood.

  1. As a non-New York native artist that just moved out of Brooklyn and into the Hudson Valley a year ago, this was beyond helpful!! Thank you.
