Sight reading: Joan Snyder’s first show with GERING & LPEZ

At GERING & LPEZ Joan Snyder has a show that brings recent paintings together with work on paper made from 1968-1976. In both, the language of music is her primary focus. The breadth of a piece of music with its many layers, polytonalities, with many instruments playing at once, is something Ive attempted to do in my paintings,” Snyder said. The images of the older work (posted above) certainly caught my eye. Look for references to landscape, architecture, nature and figuration, too.

“Joan Snyder: Symphony, Early Works on Paper, New Paintings,” GERING & LPEZ, New York, NY. Through February 23rd, 2013
