NYC Selected Gallery Guide, September 2026

Asya Geisberg Gallery: Rebecca Morgan, Painting in the Apocalypse, 2026, oil on linen, 30 x 24 inches

We are into September, which is a grueling month for the art community, like hanging out with an old friend from high school who’s developed a proselytizing passion for endurance sports: exhausting, but in the end, with luck, inspiring. Note that 56 Henry has moved to 46 Walker, changed its name to the Ellie Rines Gallery, and invited Christopher Ho to do the inaugural show. After a short hiatus, Garth Greenan reopens with two new spaces on Greene Street in Soho. I’m pleased to see that Becky Suss has her first show at Jack Shainman and that Jutta Koether’s “Songs of New York” opens at Galerie Buchholz on September 9. Thea Djordjadze’s A well of night,” a series of paintings she made in response to architectural spaces, will be her first show at Sprüth Magers’ New York outpost. Naturally, Tribeca will be hosting a slew of stunning, thought-provoking, and visually engaging exhibitions that should leave me running back to the studio full of ideas and questions that nourish my own work. The fairs are in town, too, and I’ve supplied some links and dates below. Carry on.

–Sharon Butler

If you have a new gallery, please send a note to staff@twocoatsofpaint.com with EXHIBITIONS in the subject area. For returning galleries, making sure your website is updated before the first of the month is the best approach.
