Contributed by Karlyn Benson / November is starting out with a busy weekend of openings all across the region. On November 1, Dogs & Cats opens at SEPTEMBER with over 80 artists participating. 10% of all sales are being donated to the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement, a local organization committed to supporting and resourcing immigrants. Richard Boseman opens on Saturday, November 1 at Headstone, and in the Catskills there are several openings, including Kat Chamberlin, Mia Brownell, and Lexa Walsh at Catskill Art Space; Warped Vessel at 1053 Gallery with Julie Evans, Joy Ray, Tessa Richardson, Richard Saja, Sarah Rose Sharp, Melissa Webb and Susan Yelavich; and Winter Salon at Hawk + Hive. Farther south in Cold Spring, a two-person show with paintings by Ann Provan and Bill Kooistra opens at Buster Levi, and nearby at the Garrison Art Center, two photography exhibitions are opening: Leonard Freed and PHOTOcentric. There’s also an opening on November 1 at Kenise Barnes in Kent, CT: Assemble (Cut, Burn, Stitch) with Care: Laura Petrovich-Cheney, Tristan Fitch, and Carolyn Millstein. Numerous other great shows are opening throughout the month, along with artist talks, workshops, and more. Check out the zine making workshop with Audra Wolowiec on November 8 at Cut Teeth in Kingston and the Susan Carr closing party at LABspace on November 16. Unfortunately Bill Arning Exhibitions, Furnace Art on Paper, and Susan Eley Fine Art are all closing after their current shows, so it’s the last chance to visit these spaces. It’s more important than ever to get out there and visit galleries and support artists.
