Two Coats Selected Gallery Guide / February 11, 2018

Juan Carlos Quintana in “All That You Have Is Your Soul” curated by Meyken Barreto & Armando Marino at Faction Art Projects

Contributed by Sharon Butler / It has taken me a little longer than usual to select shows for the Two Coats February Gallery Guide because there are so many good painting shows out there. That, and the fact that I’m in the  process of packing up and moving the studio to a new space upstairs. The Two Trees Cultural Space Subsidy Program has generously extended the lease (thank you!) and offered a spot on the fourth floor, where we dont have a view of the Manhattan Bridge, but it’s a little bigger and the noise level much, much lower. I have some talented resident artists lined up for the spring (stay tuned for more info about them) and DUMBO Open Studios is scheduled for April  27th and 28th this year, so I hope readers will stop by and say hello. The following listings are for painting shows (mostly) that caught my eye this month. More comprehensive, all-media listings, are available at The List on artcritical and ArtForums ARTGUIDE. Excellent phone apps like See Saw Gallery Guide and NYArtBeat allow you to bookmark exhibitions and then display the gallery locations on a neighborhood map. And please feel free to share info for other shows and events in the Comments section. Thanks.

  1. Great to see it’s hard to choose from the so many wonderful panting shows! When I was in grad school in NYC in ’98 the verdict was out, “painting was dead”.

Those in the know were telling me to stop painting. I had become used to not listening to advice by then.

… and good luck with the move!

  2. Check out my exhibit, Trifecta. It’s at the Delaware Contemporary, Wilmington, Delaware, hrough March 30.
