Portrait of the day: Lois Dodd

Lois Dodd, 1996. This photo was taken by Maine photographer Benjamin Magro. (I snapped a picture of the photograph in the exhibition catalogue.)

Known for keenly observed paintings of her surroundings in New York and Maine, Lois Dodd is having her first career retrospective at the Kemper Museum in Kansas City through August 26, 2012. The exhibition, called “Catching the Light,” comprising 51 pieces from 1955 to 2010, travels to the Portland Museum of Art in Maine in early 2013.
