A conversation with Pauline Decarmo

Pauline Decarmo at LABspace, installation view

On Saturday, May 14, at 3 pm, Two Coats of Paint founder and publisher Sharon Butler will discuss the work in Pauline Decarmo’s solo exhibition “Exit,” on view at LABspace through May 29. The event is free, outdoors, and open to the public. Visitors should bring a chair or blanket, and wear comfortable layers appropriate for unpredictable spring weather. Pauline Decarmo and Sharon Butler will both be available to meet and chat with visitors after the talk. Hosted by Julie Torres and Ellen Letcher.

The exhibition was recently featured in Chronogram:

“My work is based on my surroundings, past and present. I’m motivated by things that move me, thrill me, and anger me. I see a vast amount of space and I want to fill it with paint.” Last spring, Decarmo created a suite of eight powerful paintings exploring memory, the past, and her upbringing in South Jamaica Queens, which were featured in LABspace’s group exhibition “Occurring or Situated Between Stars.” This year, in her first solo show at the gallery, Decarmo has expanded upon her ideas from that series.

Pauline Decarmo: Exit,” LABspace, 2642 NY Route 23, Hillsdale NY. Through May 29, 2022.
