Remember Hurricane Sandy? It was a devastating superstorm that struck the northeastern United States on October 29, 2012, and turned into one of the most destructive natural disasters in the region’s history. I was living on the shore in Connecticut at the time, and the day after the storm, the streets had become canals. Propane tanks disengaged from gas grills floated down the streets with patio cushions and other debris that had been left out on porches and in yards. Across the harbor, a few sailboats had washed up on the rocky shore, their tattered sails flapping wildly in the wind.
